Miqat, Ghusl, Ihram Attire & Niyyah

What You Must Do Physically (جسمانی اعمال):

Clip fingernails, trim unwanted hair, take a Sunnah Ghusl (body bath). Men wrap 2 white unstitched sheets (Izar around waist, Rida over shoulders; remove all underwear). Women wear regular modest Islamic attire leaving only face and hands uncovered. Pray 2 Rak'at Sunnah al-Wudu before crossing the boundary.

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ عُمْرَةً • لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ

"Labbayk Allahumma 'Umrah. Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayka la shareeka laka labbayk. Innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, la shareeka lak."

اے اللہ! میں عمرہ کی نیت سے حاضر ہوں۔ میں حاضر ہوں یا اللہ، میں حاضر ہوں، تیرا کوئی شریک نہیں۔ تمام تعریف اور نعمتیں تیری ہی ہیں اور بادشاہت بھی تیری ہے، تیرا کوئی شریک نہیں۔

Critical Mistakes to Avoid (گناہ اور فدیہ سے بچیں):

Do NOT cross the Miqat without Ihram: Flying directly to Jeddah? Put on Ihram before boarding or when the pilot announces. Crossing without Ihram incurs a compulsory penalty sacrifice (Dam). Men must NOT wear underwear or cover their head with caps or hoods!

Circuit 1 Instructions

Stand at the Green Light aligning with the Black Stone. Men uncover right shoulder (Idtiba) & do Raml (brisk steps with puffed chest). Raise right hand towards Black Stone and say: بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ (Bismillahi Allahu Akbar). Walk counter-clockwise outside the Hateem wall!

Recite from Rukn al-Yamani to Hajar al-Aswad

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

"Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar"

Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and protect us from the torment of the Fire.

When to Make Niyyah & Talbiyah:

When the airline captain announces approaching Miqat boundary (~30-45 mins before landing in Jeddah).

Practical Airline Tip: PIA, Saudia, Airblue, Serene, and Fly Jinnah announce the Miqat before arrival. Do not wait until landing in Jeddah; crossing the Miqat without Ihram requires a penal sacrifice (Dam).

Recite: وَاتَّخِذُوا مِن مَّقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى. Cover right shoulder immediately. Pray 2 Rak'at with Maqam Ibrahim between you and Kaaba if possible, or anywhere in Masjid al-Haram.

Walk to the Zamzam dispensers. Stand facing the Holy Kaaba, say Bismillah, drink in 3 sips to your fill, and pour water over your head.

Halq, Taqsir & Fiqh Rules

The final ritual to complete your Umrah and lawfully exit the sacred state of Ihram.

For Men: Halq vs Taqsir

Halq is superior (3x Prophetic Dua)

Licensed barbers are directly outside the Marwah exit gates and in the Clock Tower lower levels.

Halq (Shaving): Complete clean shave of entire head using a sterile new disposable razor blade.

Taqsir (Trimming): Cutting at least 1-2 cm from all parts of hair evenly.

For Women: Taqsir Only

Shaving head is strictly forbidden

Women only cut in private (e.g. hotel room or secluded women's prayer area).

Method: Gather hair into ponytail, cut approximately one fingertip length (approx 1 inch / 2.5 cm) from ends.

Executor: A woman can cut her own hair or have a Mahram cut it.

Fiqh Matrix: Permitted vs Strictly Prohibited in Ihram

Permitted in Ihram (Mubah)

Bathing with unscented soap/bodywash.
Wristwatches, sunglasses, rings, and glasses.
Money waist belt or neck passport pouch.
Umbrellas or roof shade for sun protection.

Prohibited in Ihram (Requires Fidyah/Dam)

Men: Stitched clothes (underwear, shirts, trousers) or closed shoes.
Men: Covering head or ears with caps, hats, or towels.
Women: Wearing gloves or a niqab touching face.
Perfume, attar, scented soaps, or scented lotions.

Dua 2 • Entering Masjid al-Haram

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي وَافْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

"Bismillahi, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahummaghfir li dhunoobi waftah li abwaba rahmatik."

اللہ کے نام سے، اور درود و سلام ہو اللہ کے رسول پر۔ اے اللہ! میرے گناہ معاف فرما اور میرے لیے اپنی رحمت کے دروازے کھول دے۔

Dua 3 • First Sight of the Kaaba

اللَّهُمَّ زِدْ هَذَا الْبَيْتَ تَشْرِيفًا وَتَعْظِيمًا وَتَكْرِيمًا وَمَهَابَةً، وَزِدْ مَنْ شَرَّفَهُ وَعَظَّمَهُ مِمَّنْ حَجَّهُ أَوِ اعْتَمَرَهُ تَشْرِيفًا وَتَكْرِيمًا وَتَعْظِيمًا وَبِرًّا

"Allahumma zid hadhal-bayta tashreefan wa ta'zeeman wa takreeman wa mahabah..."

اے اللہ! اس گھر کی عزت، عظمت اور ہیبت میں اضافہ فرما، اور جو اس کا حج یا عمرہ کرے اس کی نیکی اور شرف میں اضافہ فرما۔

Dua 4 • Facing Kaaba at Safa & Marwah

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ، أَنْجَزَ وَعْدَهُ، وَنَصَرَ عَبْدَهُ، وَهَزَمَ الْأَحْزَابَ وَحْدَهُ

"La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer..."
